Ever since I met my new neighbour a year ago…I pondered one question…how does she do her hair like that?!? Her high bun looked so full of volume and it was somewhat swept around, not just flopped over, but elegantly twisted. I scoured the net for how to’s but came up with nothing. So a year on I have finally mastered my neighbours hairdo! A lot of trial and error along the way, but I now have a go-to easy, chic look that takes all of 3 minutes to complete 😊 It seems so simple that I don’t know why it wasn’t immediately obvious, but in case you too are wondering how your neighbour does it, here is a quick visual tutorial! Or you could just go next door and ask your neighbour 😜😁😂
Note: the key to volume for those of us with fine hair is in the teasing. And in order to create a sweeping look, take small sections of hair and wrap them over to the opposite side, then pin.
Whoop whoop! This week was the final week of my ‘change it up’ hair challenge for the month of April. I can happily say I’ve tried some new styles, remembered some old goodies from days gone by (pre kids days!) and have taken five minutes each morning to actually consider how I would do my hair for that day. I’ve learned to look at my hair as an accessory to any outfit…and while the mum ponytail still has its place in my life, I can happily and easily change it up throughout the week too 🙂
Reclaiming pretty hair? Why yes I am!
This weeks styles…
A super easy loop that was a fresh twist on a low bun:
A fishtail braid (or mermaid braid as I heard it called this week…so much prettier!):
A simple pony half pulled through with a leather look bow underneath (this added some good oomph to my fine hair too😊:
And running with the frizz…simple pinned back bangs…embracing the crazy volume lol:
In snapping these pics this month I’ve noticed something sad…I only ever wear the a SAME pair of earrings! Yes they are diamonds, but how boring! Surely I can add some variety into my earring-life…mission accepted! May…officially earring month for me!
This week it has become more ‘normal’ to think about my hairstyle for the day as opposed to just giving consideration to my outfit.
Nothing too outrageous though this week, just good, mummy-friendly/time poor, quick styles that aren’t just a plain pony! The most ‘new’ style to me would have to be the braided crown. I wasn’t blessed with gorgeous thick locks like The Barefoot Blonde in the tutorial (goodness me she’s stunning), but it was something different nonetheless ☺️
Another week, another few new hairstyles and accessories! I’m working on stepping it up and stepping out of my mum ponytail comfort zone…
These hairstyles were all easy, fast and fun, which is exactly what I am looking for. They have all been inspired by either Pinterest or You Tube, the links can be found below.
This was way easier than it looked, and by some fluke I required NO bobby pins to keep this in place! You can find the tutorial link, here.
I am in love with hair donuts, they literally are a mums best friend!
Quick curls, like actually quick! You can check out my previous post for more about this style, or check out the tutorial I used here.
Plain and simple, this headband was a winner at the park with my kids…until a bee thought I was a flower with all that color! This particular headband is from Colette, which has got to be one of my favourite accessory stores.
So that’s this week in hair pics, totally mummy friendly and totally adding a bit more ‘pretty’ into my life👍
So I’ve got off to a reasonable start with my hair challenge…I’ve not stepped to far out of the box BUT I have worn a few different styles that I normally wouldn’t. None of these have been difficult to achieve, the ‘hardest’ was learning how to fish tail braid. I’ve wanted to try this for the longest time, but had always assumed it was far to tricky for me to achieve…but have no fear, Lauren Conrad saved the day! I found this clip courtesy of The Beauty Department, and it was super easy. I’m sure given time I’ll get it really nailed, but for now I’m really happy with how it turned out…even if I didn’t end up looking exactly like Lauren 😉 Hope this gives you a little Inspo to try something new too, especially those mamas with ponytails❤️😘…bring on the rest of the month!
My usual hair ‘do’s’ can be lumped into three categories:
Super exciting, I know! I’ve fallen into the mummy trap of doing what’s easy, just because. This month I’m going to change it up a bit. Armed with a Pinterest board full of ideas and tutorials I’m ready to amp it up in a mummy-friendly way.
Here’s some Pinterest Inspo I plan on recreating…
Join me for the month and see if I can walk the talk! X
